Before We Install

We Check Your Panel First

Not every home is ready for an EV charger right out of the box. We assess your electrical panel before quoting so you know exactly what's needed - no surprises after the install starts.

  • Panel capacity check - Most EV chargers need 40-60 amps. If your panel is maxed out, we'll explain your options.
  • Circuit availability - We verify there's room for a dedicated 240V circuit or determine if panel work is needed.
  • Wire run distance - Longer runs from panel to garage affect cost. We measure so the quote is accurate.
  • Code requirements - EV charger installations have specific code requirements. We make sure yours passes inspection.

Need a Panel Upgrade?

Many homes built before 1980 have 100-amp panels that can't safely support an EV charger plus existing loads. Older homes may also need rewiring if the existing wiring isn't up to current standards. If yours needs upgrading, we handle that too - often as part of the same project.

Planning to add a whole-home generator alongside your EV charger? Both require significant panel capacity. Moore Electric can assess and plan for both in a single visit.

Common Questions

EV Charger Installation FAQ

How much does EV charger installation cost?

Most Level 2 installations cost between $500 and $2,500, depending on your panel capacity, wire run distance, and any upgrades needed. We provide a detailed quote after assessing your specific situation.

Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel?

It depends on your current panel capacity. Many homes built before 1980 have 100-amp panels that may need upgrading. We assess your panel as part of every quote - if an upgrade is needed, we'll explain your options.

Are there rebates available?

Massachusetts offers rebates through the MOR-EV program for Level 2 home charger installations. New Hampshire has periodic utility incentive programs. We can help you understand what's available when we provide your quote.

Can you install a Tesla Wall Connector?

Yes. We install Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint, Emporia, Grizzl-E, and all major brands. We can also install a NEMA 14-50 outlet if you prefer to use your vehicle's mobile connector.

How long does installation take?

Most installations take 2-4 hours once permits are approved. If your panel needs upgrading or we need to run wire a significant distance, it may take longer. We give you a clear timeline during the estimate process.

Do you pull permits?

Yes, always. Electrical permits protect you - they ensure the work is inspected and meets code. Some contractors skip permits to save time, but that can void your insurance and create problems when you sell. We handle all permitting.

What's the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?

Level 1 uses a standard 120V outlet and adds 3-5 miles per hour - fine for plug-in hybrids but slow for full EVs. Level 2 uses 240V and adds 25-30 miles per hour, fully charging most EVs overnight.
